As we await the spring season to slowly arrive with warmer temperatures, buds bursting on landscape plants and trees and turf growing green (yes, despite the enduring, harsh Chicago winter, we promise spring is on its way), our crews are preparing for our busiest time of year on commercial properties.

That makes April an essential time to also remind our employees about the importance of safety on the job.  Maintaining a safe workplace is a central priority at Sebert Landscaping.

While each of our branches focuses on targeted safety topics with their crews each week, we use April as a chance to have a company-wide safety kick-off meeting with all of our employees to ensure safety is top-of-mind going into this busy season. During the meeting, special expert speakers from inside and outside the company address a variety of safety topics and employees can win prizes (last year, some employees won jerseys from popular professional soccer players). This meeting is a fun and timely way to reinforce safety as a priority throughout the year.

At Sebert, safety has many significant benefits. Here are a few of the key advantages of an organized and well-thought-out safety program.

Safety Boosts Employee Morale

Maintaining a safe work environment has many benefits, but at the top, safety helps us protect our valued employees. It’s the right thing to do.

In this way, safety can boost employee morale, which increases productivity, efficiency and profit margins. This typically results in fewer absences, less employee turnover and improved work quality. When our employees feel like they work in a safe environment, they feel like they can make a real difference on the job.

Safety Beefs Up The Bottom Line

Safety also brings financial benefits, since a safe work environment directly and indirectly impacts a company’s bottom line. According to the Safety Management Group, companies that implement effective safety and health programs can expect to see their injury and illness rates reduced by 20 percent or more and a return of $4 to $6 for every dollar invested in a safety program.

What’s more, the Safety Management Group says that while employee injuries account for 6% to 9% of project costs on a jobsite without a safety program, injuries account for only 2.5% of project costs with a well-implemented safety program.

Safety Reassures Our Clients

Having employees who conduct work safely each and every day gives our clients peace-of-mind in knowing our crews embrace the safest on-the-job work practices while on their commercial properties. We hope our clients see our dedicated employees providing great service and that helps to secure and improve our customer relationships.
